For our New Year update, we thought we’d take a look at the last 12 months and review some of the key moments.
We also are excited to unveil some massive news for 2022!
After 20 years in the Mobile Coffee and Street Food industry, you would have thought we would be prepared for anything that could be thrown our way… how wrong can you be! From components stranded on the Evergiven – the ship which was stuck in the Sues Canal, to lock downs and more global supply issues, last year has had more than its fair share of challenges to overcome, but overcome them we did !
The Street Food and Mobile Beverage sector has witnessed a renaissance this year and The Big Coffee and Mobile Retail have been at the business end of getting our customers’ catering vans and trailers out there, so that their new business ventures can get off the ground and deliver delicious F&B to the British public. This year has been our busiest yet and we want to thank all of our customers who have put their trust in us to handcraft them something really special that will turn both heads and profit for years to come.
Best sellers of 2021
This year, we have seen a shift in customer choice of Mobile Catering unit; the stand out winner has been our Catering Pod. It has been used in applications such as, Mobile Coffee Pod as well as Mobile Pizza – and a wide range of other uses including crepes. We believe that the popularity of the Catering Pod must be attributed to its retro, eye catching looks as well as its attractive price. It has the capacity for two people to stand inside the Pod whist trading, making it a comfortable choice for the winter months. The UK’s weather is notorious for its cold and windy conditions, so where better to stay warm and dry than inside this mobile trailer?
In close second place has been the Ape classic – which comes in three main models.

We have been selling the Ape for nearly 20 years and it continues to go from strength to strength; its versatility and iconic appearance is always a key factor in ensuring the Ape’s appeal. We have worked with customers as far away as Russia on new and innovative projects. Coffee carts are still the most popular choice for this 3 wheeled conversion.
Airstream Coffee trailers
Another winner this year has been the Big Coffee’s catering trailer – ‘The Airstream’. Basically, a full scale mobile kitchen with enough room to fit 3 – 4 staff. This unit is our flagship mobile catering trailer – with looks to die for!! It’s available in both mirror- finished silver, or fully painted to your choice of colour. Inside the Airstream trailer there’s plenty of room for whatever equipment you wish to fit. Recent conversions include, coffee airstream, mobile pizza trailer and mobile bar with draft beer and prosecco pumps. It’s worth remembering that requirements and business models change over the years. The Airstream can be adapted for such changes, with more than enough room to add equipment to meet customer demands.
What’s new for 2022?
Here at Mobile Retail and the Big Coffee we are super excited about the new year and the launch of our new electric Citroen HY van. Designed just after world war 2, this iconic van has been reimagined for the 21st century. This retro panel van will be a head turner at any event and, being electric, it will tick many boxes from an environmental perspective. This Citroen HY van – commonly known as the H van, is the most beautiful platform for any mobile Street Food business and will take pride of place in any city centre or event. Most Citroen vans have been restored over recent years to get them looking in a presentable condition; they can still, however, have their fair share of issues with reliability and rust. Where our HY vans differ is that they are brand new. They are made from reproduction panels to emulate the true and original styling of the legendry French classic.
Kitted out as a Citroen coffee van, with our classic Fracino coffee package, the sky will be the limit for any new business owner hitting the streets in 2022.
