The lightweight coffee cart, combining the unique design of Piaggio with The Big Coffee’s knowhow on how to brew up a profitable business.

Italian is one of those languages that can make things sound better. Gelato for example sounds much more sophisticated than plain old ice cream. Recently I was sitting in a Quattroporte which seemed so much more exotic than simply sitting in a four door car and Ferrari of course have their Super Leggera…which is just a ‘super lightweight’ to us Brits.

Now the Big Coffee have taken a leaf out of Ferraris’ book and have themselves produced a Leggera; the Piaggio Ape 50 Super Leggera to be exact.

Just like Ferrari, the Big Coffee engineers have taken a long hard look at their standard machine to see how they can keep weight to an absolute minimum. The use of heavy stainless steel has been reduced, unnecessary indulgences have been paired back and the result has kept all of the Big Coffee functionality but reduced vehicle weight by quite a few kilograms; and in the words of Jeremy Clarkson “this is good”.

Like the Ferrari, the reduction in weight has improved performance (although it’s had no effect on the 0 to 60mph time, due to the fact that no Ape 50 can go that fast!). Handling has been improved and the steering is sharper and more precise. The brakes are more positive too and the whole thing feels more agile; able to take freshly brewed coffee to the masses wherever they happen to be. This means that for short distances at least, you don’t need to load the cart on to a trailer; saving you both time and money.

Barista’s have never had it so good; if they find themselves in a location with no customers, in just a few minutes they can simply start up their Ape Super Leggera and trundle off to another location a mile or two away and set up there instead. This means increased sales and increased profits.

On a racetrack it is true that the Piaggio Ape Super Leggera will be outclassed by the Ferrari, but then you’d expect that, after all you will need upwards of £200,000 for a Ferrari; and the Ferrari can’t even make coffee!

On the other hand you could spend less than £10,000 on the Big Coffee Piaggio Ape 50 Super Leggera, where you will have coffee in abundance. You won’t win any motor races with it, but you will have a great mobile coffee business with the flexibility to relocate short distances to where your customers happen to be.

And with the £190,000 you save over the Ferrari, you could buy 19 more coffee carts and have the ultimate mobile coffee empire.

And if you really want one in red to match your Ferrari, just ask.
